As long time Touhou fans, we understand that it can a fandom that is difficult to get into. Whether it’s the difficult-to-pronounce names, the frilly lolita fashion-inspired character designs, or the long rambling explanations about comiket and Japanese doujin culture whenever someone accidentally calls it an anime, it can sometimes be hard to involve your friends in anything Touhou-related.
We understand that this extends to Danmaku!! as well. Even fellow boardgame enthusiasts take one look at it, have Tanto Cuore flashbacks, and give it a pass without even trying it. For this reason, we realized we needed not only to translate the game for an English-speaking audience, we had to localize it to something that resonates with a Western audience.
And so, I present to you our next project: Bullet Hell Babes.
Bullet Hell Babes is a re-translation of the original Danmaku!! base game, with a strong emphasis on making the game more accessible. It has the same great gameplay as Danmaku!!, but with a careful consideration for things that people could find alienating, off-putting, or just plain hard to understand. Even if you own a copy of Danmaku!!, consider picking up a copy of Bullet Hell Babes to play with your weeaboo-averse friends.
